Fallingbrook Heights Baptist – Church at the Centre has had a rich history in south Scarborough, over 6 decades. In February of 1945 a group of Baptists believers decided to worship together adopting the name ”East Toronto Baptist Fellowship” with Rev. H. E. Wintemute as their pastor. Into the summer they met with members of Victoria Park Baptist.

In November of 1945 they organized as a Regular Baptist Church, called ‘Fallingbrook Heights Baptist Churchʼ, and began to negotiate a purchase of property on Blantyre Ave & Clonmore Dr. in order to build. A year later, Fallingbrook Heights / Victoria Park, Baptist Churches amalgamated. Oct. 10, 1948 Fallingbrook Heights Baptist Church building was dedicated.

The community met for 50 years in this building and, as families grew, the church blessed the greater Fallingbrook Heights community. In the spring of  1997 with lower attendance, roof / boiler issues, and low reserves, members decided to sell the church building to a developer. Plans were made to meet elsewhere – store fronts, legion halls, vacant offices, and community centres –  as the members of this church community decided to stay together to meet and worship.

In April of  1998 Fallingbrook Heights Baptist  held its 1stservice at Birchmount Community Centre where it continues to meet weekly. As the church community has grown and sought to lovingly help others in the broader community, it has been given the name Church at the Centre.
