You Are Invited: Help Plan FHBC’s 80th Anniversary Celebration! 🎉

Help Us Plan Our 80th Birthday!

This year marks an incredible milestone — 80 years of God’s faithfulness in our church community. 🙌

We’re planning a special service this November for Anniversary Sunday, and we’d love your input! You are invited to a planning session on Thursday, July 10 at 7:00PM, held online via Google Meet.

This will be a relaxed, informal evening where we will:

  • 📖 Share favourite memories and stories about the church, as we honour our past and celebrate our present
  • 🧠 Brainstorm meaningful ways to include the whole congregation in celebrating FHBC’s 80th birthday

This meeting won’t require any ongoing commitment — it’s simply a chance to bring your heart, ideas, and memories to the table. Whether you’ve been at FHBC for 8 months or 80 years, your voice matters!

If you’d like to attend the meeting, share ideas for Anniversary Sunday, or send in your favourite FHBC memories, please contact David:

We hope to see you there!

Nation At Prayer Event

A Time to Pray for Our Nation – Friday May 23 starting at 7:00 p.m.

Join us at the Birchmount Community Centre as we host Mel and Susan Finlay for a special evening.  As Executive Directors of Nation at Prayer, Mel and Susan will tell us inspiring stories from their work on Parliament Hill and lead us in heartfelt, guided prayer for those entrusted with leading our nation. (More about Nation At Prayer).

Mel and Susan were interviewed just before the recent Federal election.  Click on the picture below to watch their interview on 100 Huntley Street.

In a time when uncertainty feels like the new normal, one thing remains constant—prayer makes a difference. No matter where you stand politically, we can agree that wisdom, courage, and grace are desperately needed in leadership. Let’s come together, not just to reflect, but to intercede.

We’d love to see you there.

Please RSVP to Patricia by May 20th to let us know you’re coming.

Email Patricia if you have any questions: Patricia@churchatthecentre.com

Blessings,

Patricia Griffin

Our Church Song Book

Our Church Song Book

Songs are stories; songs are meaningful.  Do you have a song that’s important and meaningful to you?

We are building a Church Song Book.  Tell our Music Leader (David Park) about your favourite song or a song that is particularly meaningful to you and we will use it in our worship music.  Tell David your story behind that song and why it is important to you and he will share that with the church when we play the song – with your permission, of course.

We’ll try to use one of these special songs each week.  So, contact David after the church service and choose your song.

Bible Study at the Fraser’s

Our Winter/Spring Bible study is starting this week!  Starting Thursday, January 9th and running once a month through May.  The 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  Yes, there will be snacks!

We are taking a slightly different approach this time.  Instead of studying specific books of the Bible, we will be viewing a video series as a springboard for our discussions.  The series we will be looking at is “Jesus the Game Changer”.  Each week we’ll watch approximately 30 minutes of the series; followed by our regular lively discussion.

Hope to see you there!

Members: your vote counts and is necessary!

If you are on Church Council or the head of a Committee, please get your report to Lila by January 10th so that it can be included in the Annual Report.

CBOQ Assembly (Conference)

All Hands On DECK

CBOQ Assembly  – June 13 to 15, 2024

Assembly serves as the annual conference of CBOQ’s churches. The 2024 theme, “All Hands on Deck,” underscores the vital role each church and individual plays in making a difference. FHBC is gearing up to participate fully, with several attendees slated to represent us at the AGM. Attendees will engage in learning sessions, spiritual growth, and connections.   If you are interested in attending Assembly 2024, please speak with Lila;  your Registration costs will be covered.

“How Strong are our Ropes?” When the call-to-action echoes, reminiscent of a captain summoning “All Hands on Deck,” swift response is crucial.  Yet, as FHBC charts its course forward, we must assess the condition of our “ropes” both individually and collectively. Let’s persist in prayer for FHBC, aligning ourselves with God’s work within our church, and together, let’s raise our sails unitedly.
