Compassion Canada – Letter-Writing Evening

Fallingbrook Heights Baptist Church in partnership with Compassion Canada, is hosting a letter-writing event for those who sponsor Compassion children, and anyone who would like to learn more about writing letters to unsponsored children!

Do you sponsor a child with Compassion Canada? If so, you know that one of the most unique and beautiful parts of child sponsorship is the opportunity to build a relationship with the child you sponsor through letter writing. The children love to receive letters!

But sometimes letter writing can be a bit challenging.  It can be hard to find time and difficult to know what to say to a child who lives in a very different context from your own.

To make this easier (and more fun!) Fallingbrook Heights Baptist Church, in partnership with Compassion Canada, is hosting a letter-writing event for Compassion children at The Reach.  This event is not only for those who currently sponsor a Compassion child! Anyone who would like to learn more about writing letters to Compassion children is welcome to come.

There will be coffee and snacks and a chance to share stories about the children you sponsor.  There will also be a special presentation by Aimee Esparaz on Compassion’s work in releasing children from poverty and the impact of receiving letters from sponsors.

Summer Movie Nights

Summer Night at the Movies!

This summer we are holding two movie nights at The Reach (1666 Kingston Rd) – July 21 and August 12 at 7:30 pm.

Join us for Pop-Corn, Candy, Soft Drinks, good company and a good family movie.

  • July 21 Movie: Remember The Titans
    • Staring: Denzel Washington, Donald Faison, Wood Harris, Ryan Hurst, Ethan Suplee
    • Based on real events, this remarkable story celebrates how a town torn apart by friction and mistrust comes together in triumphant harmony.  After leading his team to fifteen winning seasons, beloved football coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) is demoted and replaced by tough, opinionated Herman Boone (Denzel Washington).  How these two men overcome their differences and turn a group of hostile young men into champions is a remarkable portrait of courage and perseverance.
  • August 12 Movie: The Wizard of Oz (1939 Film)
    • Staring: Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton, Charley Grapewin, The Munchkins
    • In this classic musical fantasy, Judy Garland stars as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl who dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.” Dorothy’s dream comes true when she, her dog, Toto, and her family’s house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before.Unfortunately, she makes a mortal enemy of a wicked witch when the house falls on the hag’s sister. Now, befriended by a scarecrow without a brain, a tin man with no heart and a cowardly lion—and protected by a pair of enchanted ruby slippers—Dorothy sets off along a yellow brick road for the Emerald City to beseech the all-powerful Wizard of Oz for his help to return home.Winner of Academy Awards for the classic song, “Over The Rainbow” and for “Best Score,” the family classic also received an Oscar nomination for “Best Picture.” A special Oscar for “the best juvenile performer of the year” was awarded to Judy Garland.
