PARTNERSHIP WITH COMPASSION CANADA, MEXICO
MOM’s & BABIES SURVIVAL PROGRAM
Compassion Canada operates the Mom’s & Babies survival program in partnership with local churches located in the poorest areas of 25 countries around the world.
The program we support is just north of Mexico city and FHBCatc have been a supporter of the Santa Ana Tzacuala Survival Program in Mexico. Since 2022, our church has been financially supporting the program through our budget and special fundraisers. The goal of the program is to give pregnant women and new mothers knowledge and resources to ensure that their children not only survive but thrive. Once babies reach one year of age there is a big celebration – this is a huge milestone as the first year of life is critical to survival – and they are enrolled in Compassion Canada’s Child Sponsorship program. This past year there were 11 mom’s and babies who were helped by the program.
This program helps secure access to pre- and postnatal care, skilled birth attendants and medical intervention when necessary. Mothers in the program are visited in their homes monthly by a Survival specialist, who offers education in prenatal care and early child-rearing as well as one-on-one biblical mentoring. There are also church-based activities, where moms learn skills which help them earn an income, improve literacy and where they learn about the importance of breastfeeding and how to prevent malnutrition and disease. Mom’s also learn skills they can use to start their own businesses from home to earn some income. These groups provide a supportive community of mothers who, together, learn about the God who loves them.
To see the latest impact report detailing how these funds were used click here: https://www.compassion.ca/intervention-reports/CSP0320/ There you will also find beautiful thank you messages from a Pastor along with local Compassion partnership facilitator and a mom who have been deeply impacted by this program.
CHILD SPONSORSHIP AND LETTER WRITING
Through Compassion Canada’s ministry to children, our church financially supports a child in Bangladesh, a young girl who is now 13 years old. This allows her to attend a program at a local church that includes a meal, Bible teaching and other activities. Our church also writes letters to Monisha as well as to 3 other sponsored children in Mexico. Many of our church attendees and members sponsor children directly with Compassion Canada as well.
